Henkel acquires laundry business from

€
60 per dry metric tonne,
effective 1 Oct 2012 or as contracts
allow. This adjustment is made
necessary by the increase in the cost
of energy, transport and also because
of adverse market conditions on
chlorine, the co-product of caustic
soda. The caustic soda produced by
Arkema is used in various applications
including the chemical, detergent, food,
pulp and paper industries as well as
metals treatment.
Effective from 31 Aug 2012, Henkel
has acquired Colgate-Palmolive’s
laundry cleaning business in the
Dominican Republic, including the
Fab brand. Henkel says that the
acquisition is in line with its global
strategy to grow its core businesses,
and is a perfect fit to the company’s
already-existing distributor business
in this country. The transaction also
reflects its focus on selected,
promising markets. By investing in the
growing economy of the Dominican
Republic, Henkel says it is further
enhancing the position of its Laundry
& Home Care business in the Central
American market.
In other company news, Henkel has
been listed as leader in the Nondurable
Household Products category in the
Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI
World) and Dow Jones Sustainability
Index Europe (DJSI Europe) for the
sixth consecutive year. It remains the
only company in its sector to feature in
both. ‘We are convinced that for us
sustainability is a strategic success
factor and a source of competitive
advantage,’ says Henkel CEO, Kasper
Rorsted. At the last World Economic
Forum in Davos, Henkel was ranked 17
in the Global 100 Most Sustainable
Corporations in the World.
