Put the lift truck on blocks. See the PERIODIC MAINTE-NANCE section for the correct procedures to put the lift truckon blocks. Remove the cover between the hood and the coun-terweight. Remove the overhead guard and the hood and hoodcross bar. Remove the floor plates.B. Disconnect the cables at the battery. Remove the batteryand the battery tray.C. Remove the radiator, fan and fan shroud. Disconnect theexhaust pipe at the exhaust headers. Remove the air filter hous-ing from the frame.D. Disconnect the fuel lines at the engine. Disconnect thethrottle linkage at the engine. Disconnect the wires and wiringharnesses at the engine.E. Disconnect the hydraulic line between the hydraulic filterand the tank. Put plugs in the open holes and move the filtertoward the cowl. Disconnect the oil lines at the hydraulic pump.Drain the hydraulic tank and put plugs on the open ports.F. Remove the accelerator or Monotrol pedal assembly. Re-move the brake pedal shaft. Disconnect the lines at the brakebooster and remove the brake booster and the bracket.G. Disconnect the inching linkage at the transmission. On lifttrucks with manual control, disconnect the direction controllinkage at the transmission.Disconect the supply line at the main control valve and put aplug on the line.H. Drain the oil from the axle housing. Remove the capscrewsthat hold the axle shafts to the hubs. Remove the axle shafts.I. Connect a lifting device to the engine and the transmission.Make sure the lifting device is holding the weight of the en-gine and the transmission. Remove the bolts that hold the en-gine mounts to the frame of the lift truck.J. Remove the clamp for the parking brake cable at the bottomof the transmission. Remove the capscrews that hold the driveaxle housing to the transmission housing. There are two holeswith threads in the drive axle housing. Use capscrews in theseholes to separate the housings.K. Carefully lift the engine and transmission from the frame.Put the engine in a position so that it has stability and will notfall over.L. Remove the access cover in the torque converter housing.Remove the capscrews that hold the drive plate to the flywheel.Use a wire to hold the torque converter to the transmission.M. Put straps around the transmission and connect a liftingdevice to the straps. Make sure the lifting device is holding theweight of the transmission. Remove the capscrews that holdthe torque converter housing to the flywheel housing. Thereare two holes in the torque converter housing with threads.Use capscrews in these holes to push the torque converter hous-ing from the flywheel housing. Remove the transmission fromthe engine making sure the torque converter does not fall fromthe transmission. Also check that the bearing for the pump drivegear is out of the torque converter housing.DisassemblyDisassemble the transmission as shown in Figure 1.1FIGURE 1.
